valmont training center environmental design

background

Valmont Industries – a Fortune 1000 company headquartered in Omaha – is a global leader in engineered products and services for infrastructure and water-conserving irrigation equipment for agriculture.

challenge

In 2014, Valmont opened a new corporate training and development center in Valley, Neb. Eager to make the contemporary space into an invigorating oasis for employees to sharpen their skills in everything from equipment maintenance and welding techniques to sales, Valmont leaders enlisted David Day Associates’ creative help at the front end of the architecture and construction process.

solution

Knowing the organization well, we were able to brand the building’s exterior, hallways, signage and meeting rooms for current and future Valmont staff. Our environmental design included dynamic elements that can change over time, like the world map in the foyer that illuminates each one of the company’s continually growing pool of locations worldwide. Interior signage was created to be visually and verbally motivating while duly anchored in Valmont’s core values and longstanding corporate vision. Stunning photos of corporate projects are displayed in vibrant color and richly illuminated throughout the building.

In the lobby of Valmont’s new training center, leadership sought to make an inspirational statement with a custom art piece. We worked with staff to create a beautiful sculpture from the otherwise sterile and cold galvanized steel tubing manufactured there.

The primary column of the sculpture holds up the entryway staircase and the full piece is nested on a bed of translucent rocks lit from below with LEDs. It serves as a reflection of the remarkable structures Valmont’s teams around the world erect on a daily basis.
