robert b. daugherty foundation environmental design

background

Robert B. Daugherty was the pioneer behind center pivot irrigated agriculture and the founder of Valmont Industries. When he passed away in 2010, he left behind not only an influential international company but an inspiring legacy of philanthropy and community-building.

challenge

The Robert B. Daugherty Foundation was established to further Mr. Daugherty’s goodwill through charitable grant-making to worthy nonprofit organizations. Several years later, the office, located within Valmont’s headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, was in need of an environmental facelift to match the warmth, sophistication and Midwestern sensibility of the foundation itself. David Day Associates was retained to make the brand come alive in the space.

solution

Elegant solutions include frosted vinyl in a stately, linear pattern on the entryway doors and a large glass emblem that is suspended and illuminated behind the welcome desk.

In the boardroom the linear elements extend into the design of a rich natural wood wall. Framed within them are photographs of Mr. Daugherty, innovative Valmont products in awe-striking landscapes and lives they’ve touched around the world. The images and five of Mr. Daugherty’s core values – honored daily by staff and trustees – are beautifully top-lit to draw one’s attention upward from the grand conference table.

impact

The feel at the foundation office now matches the integrity of Mr. Daugherty himself and inspires more great work in his honor.
